Santa Clara Takes Lead 2010-11 WCC Commissioner’s Cup Race
May 11, 2011Following a strong performance at the West Coast Conference men’s and women’s tennis championships, Santa Clara University has taken over the top spot in the race for the 2010-11 West Coast Conference Commissioner's Cup. The Broncos have moved into first place in the overall standings past the University of Portland, which had led since the start of the fall season. Santa Clara won the 2005 and 2007 West Coast Conference Commissioner's Cups. -
Kelly Funeral Arrangements Announced
May 03, 2011Ed Kelly ’39, who passed away on Sat., April 30 after a recent surgery, volunteered at Santa Clara for more than 29 years. It is only fitting his funeral mass will be held at the Mission Church on the Santa Clara University campus. In addition to funeral arrangements, the Bronco Bench Foundation announced Tuesday a scholarship fund has been set up in the name of Edward M Kelly and details follow below. -

Trasolini Only WCC Player to be named to the National All-Academic Jesuit Men's Basketball Team
May 02, 2011Santa Clara’s Marc Trasolini, a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District All-American who was recently named a finalist as the top collegiate basketball player in British Columbia, leads a group of six student-athletes named to the 2010-2011 National Jesuit All-Academic Men’s Basketball Team that was announced Monday by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight. Trasolini is the only player from the WCC to be named to the All-Academic list and joins Kevin Foster who was named to the National Jesuit All-League team last week. -
Foster Only WCC Player to be named to the National All-Jesuit Men's Basketball Team
April 29, 2011Leading the country in threes made per game (3.71) and threes made (140), Bronco sophomore Kevin Foster was named to the 2010-2011 National All-Jesuit Men’s Basketball Team, as announced Friday by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight. He is the only player from the WCC to be named to the 10-man national team. -
Five SCU Basketball Players Earn WCC Scholar-Athlete Honors

Basketball Presents Annual Awards
April 27, 2011The Santa Clara men's basketball program held its annual Banquet on Mon., April 18. The highlight of the night were the words from the four seniors – Troy Payne, Nate Mensah, Michael Santos and Ben Dowdell. The team also celebrated the CIT Championship by cutting down the nets and watching a fantastic highlight video produced by Video Coordinator Adam Bauman. -
Basketball's Roquemore and Payne Honored with Mid-Major All-American Awards
April 15, 2011Bronco basketball players Evan Roquemore and Troy Payne were both honored by the CollegeInsider.com website this week. Roquemore was named to the Mid-Major Freshman All-American team and Payne was named to the Mid-Major Defensive All-American team. Earlier this month Kevin Foster was named a Mid-Major All-American and the MVP of the West Coast Conference. Foster was named a Mid-Major Freshman All-American his rookie year as well in 2009. -

Basketball Announces Signee Brandon Clark
April 13, 2011Santa Clara Head Basketball Coach Kerry Keating announced today Brandon Clark of East Chicago, Ind. (Merrillville HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent for the April, 2011 signing period. Clark is part of the 2011 Bronco signing class that includes the three November, 2010 signees: forward/center Robert Garrett (Sacramento HS, Sacramento, Calif.); wing Denzel Johnson (Clovis West HS, Fresno, Calif.); and forward Karim York (Del Valle HS, Del Valle, Texas). -
Payne Looks Back on Senior Season

Santa Clara To Play in the 76 Classic Men’s Basketball Tournament Returns to Anaheim
April 11, 2011Santa Clara will play in the 76 Classic this next Thanksgiving. The 76 Classic 2011 tournament field, which includes Santa Clara along with Boston College, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Saint Louis, UC Riverside, Washington State and Villanova, will be be held over Thanksgiving weekend, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 24, 25 & 27, 2011 at the Anaheim (Calif.) Convention Center adjacent to Disneyland. -

April 07, 2011Santa Clara will host its Bronco Basketball Banquet honoring the 2011 CIT Champions on Mon., April 25 at the Leavey Center on the court. The banquet will feature an address from each senior: Troy Payne, Ben Dowdell, Nate Mensah; and Michael Santos, and also head coach Kerry Keating. -
Foster Named WCC Player of the Month Again in March
April 07, 2011Already named the Most Valuable Player of the CollegeInsider.com Post-season Tournament, Bronco sophomore Kevin Foster was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month in March on Wednesday. Foster received the honor in February as well and was named the WCC Player of the Week twice this season as well. Foster shattered the WCC record with 140 threes this season, which is No. 9 all-time in NCAA single season history. He set the Bronco career three pointers attempted and also broke the single season school records for points scored, minutes played, threes made, threes attempted and games started. Foster, who scored 23.3 ppg in the month of March, averaged 4.7 threes per game as well. Also in March, he led the Broncos with 3.7 spg and 1.3 apg. He also averaged 3.7 rpg in 35.1 mpg. He led the WCC in scoring this year with 20.2 ppg. He led the team with 3.7 apg and 1.6 spg. He was named All-WCC First Team. CollegeInsider.com named Foster the MVP of the WCC this season and also a Mid-Major All-American. -
Basketball Ranked No. 22 Nationally in Final National Mid-Major Poll; Foster, Keating Honored

It is the first time in school history the team has finished ranked nationally in the poll’s 12th season of being published. Head coach Kerry Keating and Kevin Foster both received honors from the CollegeInsider.com website. -
Broncos are CIT Champions!
March 30, 2011Putting five players in double figures to defeat Iona 76-69, Santa Clara won the CollegeInsider.com Post-Season Tournament, including its last three road games. Santa Clara finishes the season at 24-14 and Iona finishes at 25-12. The 24 wins are the most since it won 27 in 1968-69 and its the first post-season the basketball program has ever won. Santa Clara is 2-0 lifetime vs. the Gaels, having won in 1960. Kevin Foster was named the MVP of the tournament and Marc Trasolini and Troy Payne were named All-Tournament. -

Santa Clara to play at Iona in the CIT Championship Game
March 26, 2011NOTE: THE PEP RALLY HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO SANTA CLARA GOING STRAIGHT TO NYC FOR THE GAME. Santa Clara, 23-14, will play at Iona College, 25-11, on Wed., March 30 at 5 pm Pacific. The game will be televised nationally on Fox Sports with more information to come. Santa Clara advanced with a 72-55 win at SMU on Friday and Iona won 83-80 at East Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon. The team and coaches met this morning and decided to stay in Dallas rather than spend two days traveling back and forth to the championship game. While some of the players spent time at the pool in 87 degree sunshine and some went on a tour of Dallas and its sports facilities, the coaches spent the afternoon watching Iona's win at ETSU. -

Basketball Clinches CIT Championship Berth with 17-point win at SMU
March 25, 2011What a welcome back to his home state of Texas! Houston native Kevin Foster scored 35 points, including five threes and Troy Payne added 15 to help Santa Clara to a 72-55 victory over host SMU. Santa Clara moves to 23-14 and SMU is 20-15. It is just the third time in school history Santa Clara has won 23+ games in a season and the first time since 1969-70. It has won four post-season games for the first time in school history. -

March 24, 2011As Santa Clara worked to prepare for its CIT semi-final in Dallas vs. SMU on Fri., March 25 at 5 pm (Pacific), the Broncos had a 9 am wake-up call this morning after arriving at the hotel last night about midnight. The team flew to Dallas late yesterday and is on spring break this week. -

The all-time series is knotted up at 1-1 the home team winning in 1987 (SMU won Dec. 21, 1987 78-70) and 1988 (SCU won 64-61 on Dec. 22, 1988). Santa Clara has only won 22+ games five times in school history and its the first 22+ win season since 1983-84. It has won 23+ games just twice with the last time being in 1969-70. -
Basketball Ends USF Season; Advance to CIT Semis to Play at SMU on Friday
March 23, 2011Santa Clara defeated San Francisco Tuesday night in a hard-fought war, coming out on top 95-91 to advance to the CIT semi-finals in Dallas at SMU on Fri., March 25 at 7 pm Central (5 pm Pacific). It was the 208th meeting in the two school histories and it lived up to the billing. It is the first time since 1983-84 that Santa Clara has won 22 games in a season and it is just the fifth time 22+ win season in school history. Santa Clara is 10-0 when it scores 80+ this season and 18-1 in Coach Keating's four years. -
