Santa Clara is proud to announce Cory Schlesinger as the new head strength and conditioning coach effective August 1. Schlesinger comes to Santa Clara after spending time working at the Olympic Training Center. Schlesinger's primary responsibility will be working with the Bronco men's and women's basketball teams. Prior to his time with the USOC, he spent two seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Campbell University. He replaces Joe Siara who resigned this summer to move back to Florida upon getting married.
"I consider myself extremely fortunate to be appointed the head strength and conditioning coach for Santa Clara and working exclusively with the basketball programs, especially after the men's tremendous success last season," said Schlesinger. "Already I have found the coaching and athletics staff to be extremely motivated, proficient, and provide a family-like atmosphere. I owe all my success to my family, my mentors, and educators, especially Jonas Sahratian (men's basketball strength coach at UNC Chapel Hill).
"We are excited to have Cory join our family and bring a new level of excitement and energy to the weight room and our conditioning program," said Bronco head men's basketball coach Kerry Keating. "He has a passion to help our guys improve, and wants to ensure they are in the best position to win each time we step on the court. He comes from a basketball upbringing and understands how important our players health and physical well-being have been an important part of our success and will be even more so moving forward. He is constantly looking to improve his craft, which is also a vital part to success, and something that our players have come to greatly appreciate."
"We are extremely excited about the experiences and energy Cory will bring to our program. He has a wealth of knowledge and is extremely dedicated to bringing our program to another level. We are glad to have him on board as a member of our staff," said Bronco head women's basketball coach Jennifer Mountain.
While at Campbell Schlesinger worked with volleyball, men's soccer, swimming and diving, golf, tennis and assisted with football.
Schlesinger has spent hit time wisely by interning with the strength and conditioning programs at Wake Forest University under Coach Ethan Reeve (2007) and two terms with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2008, 2009) working with men's basketball and assisting with NBA athletes under strength coach Jonas Sahratian.
A former point guard at Berea College, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education with a concentration in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine. While attending Berea College, Schlesinger played four years of basketball under Coach John Mills. Schlesinger completed a Master's Degree in Education with a concentration in Exercise Science while at Campbell.
Schlesinger is also certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and has earned his USAW Certification.
