CABO SAN LUCAS, Mex. - Santa Clara University had true freshmen Gio Gandionco and Martin Keskari post rounds in the 70's as did junior Scott Lowe during opening round play of the Cabo Collegiate in Baja, Mexico Sunday.

The three-day, 54-hole event will continue Monday, with Santa Clara sitting in seventh place overall, but just six shots behind No. 20 Florida State for third. Leading the strong nationwide field are SEC programs Mississippi and Kentucky.

Gandionco, a product of Cebu City in the Phillipines, was extremely impressive in his first-ever tournament action at the collegiate level. He shot 36 on the front nine and 39 on the back to come in at 75, which puts him in 17th individually. Both Lowe and Keskari navigated the 7,070-yard layout at Querencia Golf Club with rounds of 76.

Play resumes Monday morning at 9 a.m.
