SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara attacker Erik Hurtado was named the West Coast Conference 'Player of the Month' for September. The junior forward was terrific in September, earning back-to-back WCC 'Player of the Week' honors on Sept. 12 and 19. From Aug. 27 through Sept. 30, Hurtado totaled 40 shots, 12 points, four goals and four assists, which were all league-bests.

"What's unique about Erik is that he's just so explosive," Santa Clara head coach Cameron Rast has said about Hurtado. "His ability to accelerate and the power in his game make (opponents) focus so much time and energy on him, defending him, worrying about him, because he can do things that most other collegiate players cannot."

Hurtado netted goals in four of five matches from Sept. 2 through 16, scoring against No. 6 UCLA, No. 14 Cal and tallied a career-high eight-shots in a 2-0 win over Cleveland State. Additionally, Hurtado put 18 shots on goal during the month. By the end of September, the Broncos had moved into the national rankings and owned a 5-1-3 overall record (1-0 in the WCC).

Hurtado is in the midst of an outstanding career at SCU. He was named a First Team All-WCC performer last season, made the league's all-freshman team in 2009 and has also been honored nationally as the College Soccer News 'Player of the Week' during the Broncos championship run last fall.
