Santa Clara Blanks Visiting Sacramento State 6-0

Santa Clara, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's tennis team continued their strong play at home, as they defeated visiting Sacramento State at the Degheri Tennis Center this afternoon 6-0.  The Broncos are now 6-2 on their home court.

Santa Clara evens its record to 12-12 on the year and will return to action at the Degheri Tennis Center on Monday with a doubleheader with Fresno Pacific and West Coast Conference rival Saint Mary's. Game time has yet to be determined. Please check back for the start time.

The two teams elected to start off with singles, as rain was forecasted in the late afternoon. Santa Clara showed its strength and depth, as only one set was dropped among the six singles matches. Tommy Hicks was first off the court with his 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ramon Perez at the No. 5 position, while Bobby Rasmussen soon followed with an easy 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Thomas Morton at the No. 4 spot. Jan Macek increased the Broncos' lead to 3-0 after a 6-0, 6-3 win on Court 1, and A.J. Kerin clinched the dual match after defeating Hague Van Dillen 6-3, 7-6 (7) at the No. 6 spot. Warwick Foy took Kevin McQuaid to two tiebreakers on Court 3, but McQuaid won them both and Brian Brogan completed the sweep after his 3-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (8) comeback over Gabriel Loredo at the No. 2 position.

Following the singles portion of the contest, the two teams decided not to play doubles.
