Men’s Tennis Advances Four In Singles Play And Three In Doubles Play At Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. – A return to the courts of Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center on Friday was a successful one for Santa Clara men's tennis who advanced four singles to the round of 16 and all three doubles teams to the quarterfinals at the Pacific Tiger Invitational.  
 
A week after playing at the same venue for the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on the campus of University of the Pacific, all four seeded Bronco singles players advanced to the round of 16. 
 
Number three seed Connor Garnett, five seed Andrew Gu, seven seed Robert Seby and nine seed Vasileios Iliopoulos each took care of business, winning one singles match on the day, getting a bye in the first round.  
 
All four Broncos will play their round of 16 singles match at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday. 
 
Unseeded Kamran Khan advanced to the round of 32 beating UC Davis' Dariush Jalali before losing to 13th seeded Bernardo Oliveira in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.  
Khan will play in the extra consolation singles bracket at 1 p.m. on Saturday. 
 
Sebastien Mathieu won a consolation bracket singles match, 6-2, 6-2 over Saint Mary's Jackson Hawk.
 
In doubles play, all three Bronco pairs won two matches to advance to the quarterfinals which will be played at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.  
 
Garnett and Khan teamed up to defeat number three seed Axel Damiens and Karl Enander of Cal Poly in the round of 16 to advance to the next round.  
 
Gu and Seby, the number three seed, won their only match after having a first round bye.  
 
Iliopoulos and Mathieu won a pair of matches to cap off the perfect play in doubles action on Friday for the Broncos.  
 
Day two of the championships on Saturday will include the doubles portion in the morning hours followed by the continuation of singles play.
