STOCKTON, Calif. - Santa Clara dropped its men's water polo season-opener against No. 9-ranked Pacific by a 16-5 margin Wednesday at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
The Tigers opened up a 2-0 in the first quarter, and extended the lead to 5-2 at halftime. Pacific junior Danny Johnson (Westminster, Calif.) scored his first two goals as a Tiger in the first half.
Santa Clara closed the gap to 6-4 on Jay Moorehead's third goal of the game, with 1:40 left in the third quarter.
Pacific then outscored the Broncos 10-1 the rest of the way to secure the win. Wisniewski's three goals all came in the final 1:22 of the third quarter.
The Broncos travel to Loyola Marymount University for a 6 p.m. game tomorrow in Los Angeles.
