Water Polo Tops Boston College, Falls to Redlands

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Santa Clara's men's water polo team defeated Boston College13-5 and then fell to Redlands 8-6 in second-day action at the Convergence Tournament.

The Broncos had won three straight with this morning's victory after opening the Tournament with wins over Pomona and Bucknell yesterday afternoon. Today's loss drops the team's record to 8-10 on the season.

Leading the Broncos in scoring against Boston College were Jay Moorhead with four and Jeff Raegen with three. Matt Reilly added two goals, while Eric Akerman, Dan Figoni, John Doucette, and Dan O'Connell added one each. Santa Clara was led defensively by goalkeeper Matt Petrich's eight saves.

In the loss to Redlands, ranked second among Div. I-AAA schools, the Broncos were led by Moorhead, Andy Sikic and O'Connell, who each posted two goals. Petrich supplied 12 blocks for SCU's defense.

The Broncos conclude play at the Convergence Tournament tomorrow with a 9 a.m. match against Iona, followed by a noon meeting with Chaminade.
