  • Ashley Armstrong of Women's Basketball Named Valedictorian, Kevin Oliver Also Honored

    Showing yet again that Santa Clara student-athletes are just as much students as they are athletes, Ashley Armstrong of women’s basketball was named the Valedictorian of the class of 2013. Armstrong has already been accepted to Cambridge University to get her Masters of Philosophy beginning in the fall.
  • The First Annual Kelly Classic

    Next Saturday, June 1, we will be hosting a 3 on 3 basketball tournament in Memory of Michael Kelly. All proceeds from the team entries will go to the Michael Kelly Scholarship Fund through development. The entry fee per team is $15.00. The tournament will be a round robin format following the 3 on 3 Intramural Sports rules (this is not an Intramural Sports Event so no Championship T-shirts for the winners. There will be other prizes for the winning teams). At the end of the round robin there will be a single elimination tournament to determine the winning teams.

    Santa Clara women’s basketball will host a Blongo Ball Tournament on June 1 at the Alumni Park on the campus of Santa Clara University. The event will take place from 12-5 p.m. and will feature a BBQ.

    After winning the most games in a season under head coach Jennifer Mountain, Santa Clara women’s basketball is in the middle of spring workouts. Spring workouts are a time to focus on conditioning and working on areas that need improvement.

    Santa Clara senior Meagan Fulps is currently in China with the Net Scouts All-Star Team. Over two weeks the team will play nine games against national teams from China, Australia and Brazil.
  • Santa Clara Women's Basketball Has Successful 2012-13, Sets Bar for the Future

    For the fifth consecutive season under Bronco head coach Jennifer Mountain, the Santa Clara women’s basketball team improved its win total. The Broncos won 14 games in 2012-13, including six in the West Coast Conference, matching its WCC total from 2010-11. Santa Clara also took on two teams that would play in the NCAA Tournament. The Broncos beat Fresno State 58-53 and fell to powerhouse No. 4 Stanford who advanced to the Sweet 16 after four straight Final Four appearances.
  • Meagan Fulps Headed to China with USA All-Stars for Two Week, Nine Game Tour

    Getting a chance to continue playing basketball after her final season on the Mission campus, Santa Clara women’s basketball’s Meagan Fulps was invited to play on the NetScouts Basketball All-Star Team. Fulps, who finished her Bronco career at No. 7 on the all-time scoring list with 1,297 points, will travel to China and play nine games in 14 days. The U.S. team will take on teams from Brazil, China and Australia.

    In its first game of the West Coast Conference Tournament, Santa Clara women’s basketball fell to Portland by a final of 70-64 in a tightly contested game. The loss ends Santa Clara’s season at 14-16 overall and puts Portland at 11-19.

    After finishing the regular season with the No. 6 seed, Santa Clara women’s basketball will head to Las Vegas for the West Coast Conference Tournament. The Broncos will face Portland on Thur., March 7 at 2:30 p.m. Santa Clara ended the regular season with a pair of losses at Saint Mary’s and vs. San Diego to put its record of 14-15 overall and 6-10 in conference.

    On Senior Day at the Leavey Center, Santa Clara women’s basketball fell to San Diego by a final of 84-66. The loss puts the Broncos at 14-15 overall and 6-10 in the West Coast Conference to end the regular season while San Diego is now 20-8 and 12-4 in conference.

    Nici Gilday (NG) rounded up enough awards and honors in high school to last her a life time, but this stellar scholar athlete kept the success going with her amazing freshman season. Now, as a sophomore, Gilday is looking forward to starting for the Santa Clara's women's basketball ball team. SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCU) was interested in finding out more about Gilday's feelings regarding starting. Gilday shared that, more than anything, she is excited to have the opportunity to contribute to her team and help lead them to a successful season. From fourth grade to the present, Gilday's passion for basketball has remained at a high, and she is looking forward to showing it on the court this season.

Meagan Fulps and Ruta Zurauskyte were named to the All-Academic Team while Nici Gilday and Ricki Radanovich were Honorable Mention.

    Trying to nail-down the fifth seed in the upcoming West Coast Conference Tournament in Las Vegas, Santa Clara women’s basketball beat Pepperdine by a final of 64-52. Santa Clara is now 14-13 overall and 6-8 in the WCC while Pepperdine moves to 4-21 overall and 1-13 in conference.

    After playing tough against the top team in the West Coast Conference, Santa Clara women's basketball returns to the court for a match up with Pepperdine on Sat., Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Leavey Center. In its last game, Santa Clara fell on Feb. 21 at home to Gonzaga, 70-55. The Broncos are 13-13 overall this season and 5-8 in the WCC.
  • Women's Basketball Can't Hang with Zags, Fall 70-55

    Despite strong performances from Ruta Zurauskyte and Meagan Fulps, the Santa Clara women’s basketball team fell to visiting Gonzaga 70-55 Thursday night at the Leavey Center. The Broncos move to 13-13 overall, 5-8 in the WCC. Gonzaga improves to 23-5, 13-1 in the WCC. Zurauskyte notched her fifth double-double of the season, ending the night with 19 points and 11 rebounds. She was one point shy of hit the 20-point mark this year, a feat she has accomplished three times this year. Meagan Fulps scored 15 points, including 4-of-6 from distance. Ricki Radanovich ended with six points; the sharpshooter was held scoreless in the second half. The Broncos shot 20-45 from field goal range, for 44.4%. Raquel Avila dished out seven assists, tying her career-high.
  • Women's Basketball Takes on Gonzaga on NBC Sports Network Thursday at Leavey; Tip Moved to 6 PM

    Playing on national television for the first time this season, Santa Clara women’s basketball will host rival Gonzaga in a big West Coast Conference matchup on Thur., Feb. 21. The game will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network starting at 6:00 p.m. with Ted Robinson and Krista Blunk making the call. The game time has been moved up one hour from 7 p.m. to accommodate television.

    After getting back in the win column last week, Santa Clara women’s basketball returns to the floor for a one-game week. The Broncos travel to Provo, Utah to take on BYU on Thur., Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. Last week, Santa Clara fell at LMU before bouncing back to win at USF 69-64 behind the first career double-double from Nici Gilday. Santa Clara is now 13-11 overall and 5-6 in the West Coast Conference.

    Looking to get back on track, Santa Clara women’s basketball travels to local rival San Francisco on Sat., Feb. 9 for a matchup with the Dons at 2 p.m. Earlier in the season the Broncos took down USF 61-48 behind 15 points from Ricki Radanovich and a double-double from Lindsay Leo. Santa Clara enters the matchup with a 12-11 record overall and a 4-6 mark in West Coast Conference play.

    Hitting the road for two games this week, Santa Clara women’s basketball (12-11; 4-6 WCC) lost to LMU (9-14; 3-7 WCC) by a final of 71-50. The Lions jumped out to a big lead early on and never looked back.
