SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Despite still struggling with injuries to key members of the team, Santa Clara women's rowing put together some good pieces at the Covered Bridge Regatta over the weekend.

Santa Clara's top finish came in the Collegiate 2's where the Broncos raced two boats. The boats finished first and second, 21 seconds ahead of the third place finisher.

"We were able to cap off the day with a first and second place finish in the pairs," said Santa Clara head coach John Wojtkiewicz. "That was a great race to watch as both of our crews exchanged leads down the course. They really had to fight all the way. It shows all the work we do in small boats paying off."

The Broncos also got a second place finish in the Varsity 4 petite final, 16 seconds ahead of third place.

"The fours had a good weekend in that they were able to stay in the competitive mix," said Wojtkiewicz. "Both crews were happy with their performance and looking forward to getting back into an eight next weekend against St. Mary's, Humboldt State, and Mills.

The Varsity 8 boat came in last in its race but saw some improvement.

"We're still working on finding the right lineup for the Varsity 8," said Wojtkiewicz. "We were able to make some small improvements from San Diego and close the margin a little on some crews we saw both this weekend and last. As we have some athletes come off the injured list, we hope to get the right people in the right seats in time for WIRAs and WCCs."

The Broncos return to the water Saturday as they face Saint Mary's at Redwood Shores.
