UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - The Santa Clara women's golf team has reclaimed a share of third place in the WCC after the Broncos weathered the conditions and the pressure at the 2008 WCC Championships. Senior Corey Utsurogi ended her college career with a gritty top-ten finish.

In a day when precious few scores were in the 70s, Utsurogi shot a team-best 84 and would have tied for ninth place if not for a final hole double-bogey.

Hilaire Fouts followed up her 13th place performance at last year's WCC Championships with an 11th place finish. Her first round 73 was one of the highlights for the Broncos in the tournament, which tied her for second at the time. Fouts closed with a final round score of 88 to finish the tournament at +27.

Miki Ueoka finished off her first WCC Championship outing with a 13th place finish. Ueoka was just six-over and easily in the top-ten going into her final three holes before hitting a rough patch to give her a final round 86 and leaving her at +28 for the tournament.

Erin Sullivan also was looking to have one of her best rounds of the tournament at seven-over through 14, but she stumblesd on 15 and 16 to finish with a final round score of 87. Sullivan finished her tournament at +37 and in 21st place.

The final Bronco golfer was Jenny Nelson, who shot a final round 92 to finish at +54 for the tournament.

"Pepperdine and USF for years have dominated conference and in the last five years SCU has risen from last place in the conference to a secure third place position. Last year we lost that spot by one shot," said head coach Polly Schulze. The Broncos have gotten back to that third spot and can now look back on a solid 2007-08 campaign and look forward to future success.
