The Santa Clara women's golf team will be heading to Kapolei, Oahu for the Kent Youel Invitational starting Tuesday, October 30. The tournament, hosted by the University of Hawai'i, will be the team's second of the year. Three weeks ago they took seventh at the Boise State Bronco Invitational. The Kent Youel Invitational will include UCLA and USC, the #2 and #3 teams in the nation respectively.

"I have complete confidence in their ability to do well against a tough field," said head coach Polly Schulze. "Our goal going in to the event is to focus on the things that we have been working on, like staying focused on the process of playing instead of the outcome. If we do that then the outcome will take care of itself."

Just like last tournament, Santa Clara will be taking a young team to Hawai'i. Freshman Miki Ueoka, who tied for seventh place in her first collegiate tournament, will join fellow freshman Katie Sharpe, sophomores Erin Sullivan and Katherine Suarez, and senior Corey Utsurogi.

"The fact that our young players are so talented bodes well for the next few years," said Schulze. "I know that they have low scores in them and when they come in to their own as collegiate players there is no saying how good we can become as a team."

Right now the team is focusing on playing their game and improving, not so much on where they place. "We will play our best and where that puts us on the scoreboard is where it puts us," said Schulze. "If we feel that we are improving on our personal goals then we will consider it a success."

The first round begins Tuesday morning, followed by the second round in the afternoon. The third and final round will take place Wednesday morning.
