ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – Helped by three top-5 individual finishes, Santa Clara women's golf held on to claim the team title at the shortened Cal Poly Invitational, holding off the hosts for a nine-shot victory with a tournament total 22-over 598. The event, which the Broncos won for the second-straight season, was shortened to two rounds after fog delayed Saturday's start.
First-round leader Kyleigh Moreno carded a final-round 77 to slip into a tie for second-place with teammate Marni Murez at 3-over 147. Murez shot a personal-best round of 2-under 70 on Sunday. The two finished one-shot back of medalist Samantha Martirez of Cal Baptist, who carded a 73 on Sunday for a 146 total.
Kristin Le, the defending champion, tied for fifth with a trio of golfers at 7-over 151. The senior placed among the top-5 for the 10th time in her career.
Five other Broncos finished in the top half of the leaderboard. Emily Sumner tied for 11th at 11-over 155 with Sarah Busey a shot back at 156, tied for 14th.
Chloe Wong shot a final-round 76, the second-lowest score among the 11 Santa Clara players, to climb into a tie for 18th at 14-over 158. Competing as individuals, Isabella Seeburger and Vanessa Giampaoli tied for 20th at 15-over 159 in the final tournament of the fall for the Broncos who won twice in four starts.
