Athletic's Janice DeMonsi Named Sustainability Champion for SCU Staff; Volleyball's Megan Anders Works As Sustainability InternJune 15, 2012Working to become a champion in Sustainability, including environmental conservation, social justice and fiscal responsibility, Santa Clara’s own Janice DeMonsi was named the Sustainability Champion for SCU Staff. DeMonsi is the Director of Recreation as part of Bronco Athletics.

Brad Keller Resigns to Take Position With UCLA Men’s VolleyballJune 11, 2012Brad Keller, who has been with the Santa Clara volleyball program since Feb. 6, 2012, resigned his position with the Broncos on June 9 to take a similar position with the UCLA men’s volleyball team.

Dream Moment for Bronco Student-Athlete Tanya Schmidt Includes NCAA PresidentJune 11, 2012Imagine on one of your last days as an NCAA Division I student-athlete, after speaking to a room full of college presidents and administrators, the President of the NCAA applauds your efforts by personally stopping by your table. As he continues to acknowledge all you have done, he tells you he will make sure the NCAA increases the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship award so you can receive matching funds at your dream graduate school, NYU. It’s enough to make you run outside the building and do your happy dance! That’s exactly what happened to Tanya Schmidt last Wednesday night.

SAAC Hands Out 2012 Senior Student-Athlete AwardsJune 06, 2012The Student Athelete Advisory Committee, known as SAAC, handed out the Santa Clara Senior Student-Athlete Awards last week. Women's Basketball's Alyssa Shoji and men's tennis' Kyle Dandan were named the top student-athletes, while Austin Jones and Tanya Schmidt were recognized for the top individual cumulative grade point average.

Leavey Center Wins First-Ever Sports Gear DriveJune 06, 2012This year featured Santa Clara’s first-ever sports gear drive between the Malley Center and the Leavey Center with the Leavey Center being crowned the champion! Sustainability intern Megan Anders, a rising junior middle block on the Bronco volleyball team, was there every step of the way!

Volleyball Continues To Make Huge Strides In Spring PlayMay 23, 2012Santa Clara’s volleyball team finished a busy spring season on May 12 with the Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer, where the Broncos helped raise almost $30,000 for cancer research and then closed out play on the court on May 13 with seven straight wins vs. Cal Poly.

Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer Raises Almost $30,000!May 22, 2012Helping raise almost $30,000 for cancer research (as of May 22), the Santa Clara volleyball team hosted the fourth annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer on the Mission Campus on May 12. The Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer has raised more than $83,000 since its start in 2009 with all proceeds being donated to the UCSF Foundation.

Bronco Volleyball Student-Athletes Compete in Iron BroncoMay 02, 2012Each year during spring quarter, students hit the gym, the pavement, and the pool, more than ever to participate in the annual Iron Bronco. This event is a spinoff of the well-known Iron Man, a triathlon consisting of a 2.4 mi swim, 112 mi bike ride, and 26.2 mi run. Santa Clara students, as well as staff, are able to compete on their own or in groups of 3 over the two weeks. This year, a number of Bronco volleyball players decided to test out the race and compete together. Bronco Volleyball Competes In Sand Volleyball Tournament in MalibuApril 25, 2012Another first for Bronco Athletics! The Santa Clara volleyball team travelled down to Malibu last weekend to compete in its first-ever sand volleyball tournament with Pepperdine and UC Santa Barbara. A day Bronco assistant coach Matt Lyles termed as a ”typical spring tournament where there were no winners or losers”, Santa Clara’s team came away with a little sand in its hair and a lot of smiles.

Ali Rambis Ready to Get Back on the CourtApril 17, 2012Ali Rambis (AR) played in 35 sets this fall and recorded service aces in four different matches, but she was sidelined for a large part of the season with an elbow injury. The rising junior is preparing to make her return in the fall as she trains with the Broncos throughout the spring. Santa Clara Athletic Director Dan Coonan Makes Good On Promise, Joins Volleyball Team in First Spring PracticeApril 03, 2012While a number of fall sports may have started spring practice around the country on Monday, it’s very unlikely many teams had the special guest Santa Clara volleyball hosted on its first day. Volleyball Releases 2012 Spring Schedule; Includes a Beach Tournament in MalibuMarch 23, 2012Revitalized with a re-tooled coaching staff under Bronco head coach Jon Wallace, Santa Clara released its 2012 spring volleyball schedule on Friday. Volleyball's Anders Making Sustainability Contributions FeltMarch 15, 2012Bronco volleyball’s rising junior Megan Anders discovered a way to combine her love for sports and sustainability when she landed the position of Sustainability Intern, Athletics and Recreation on the Mission Campus. Being involved as a student-athlete always appealed to her, and when the opportunity to apply for an internship position in the Sustainability Office popped up on BroncoLink, she couldn’t pass.

Volleyball's Schmidt Awarded NCAA Post-Graduate ScholarshipMarch 08, 2012Santa Clara University senior volleyball player Tanya Schmidt was one of 29 female student-athletes awarded a prestigious one-time, nonrenewable $7,500 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship this week. Schmidt was named twice to the All-WCC team during her Bronco career, including first team in 2010. She was also named three times to the WCC All-Academic Team and twice to the Capital One Academic All-District All-American team. The team captain last fall, Schmidt was also named one of 30 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award this past fall.

Brad Keller Joins Santa Clara Volleyball As An Assistant CoachFebruary 06, 2012Bronco head volleyball coach Jon Wallace is proud to announce that Brad Keller, a 2002 graduate of Loyola Marymount University, is joining his staff effective immediately. Bringing a resume of helping build national championship teams, Brad Keller spent the last six seasons on the collegiate level; including helping lead Southern California to the 2009 NCAA men’s volleyball title match.

Former National Team Player Matt Lyles Returns As An Assistant Coach with Santa Clara VolleyballJanuary 18, 2012Welcome Back! Playing an important role in the Broncos’ Final Four run in 2005, Matt Lyles has returned to the Mission Campus as an assistant coach with the Bronco volleyball program. He will be involved in all aspects of the program, including the overall training of the team on a daily basis. This will include practice planning and match preparation.

Five Volleyball Players Honored by the WCC, including First Team Member Dana KnudsenNovember 24, 2011For the 14th straight season the Santa Clara volleyball team has placed at least one player on the West Coast Conference First Team and this year’s entry is junior Dana Knudsen. In addition, senior Schmidt posted the highest GPA of the 12-member All-Academic Team with three others being named Honorable Mention: juniors Kayla Lommori, Alexandra Palmer and Kaleigh Durket.

Volleyball Finishes Season With Loss to Saint Mary's on Senior Day; Schmidt Interviewing for Rhodes ScholarshipNovember 19, 2011Despite Bronco Senior Day for Bridget O’Hara and Tanya Schmidt, Saint Mary’s defeated Santa Clara 3-0 in the Leavey Center on Saturday. Set scores were 26-24, 25-22 and 25-20. Santa Clara ends the 2011 season at 11-16 and 6-10. Saint Mary’s ends its season at 16-12 and 10-6 in the WCC. Schmidt wasn’t at Senior Day because she was in San Francisco interviewing for the Rhodes Scholar.
