SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's water polo team dropped a pair of games Saturday at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational, losing to No. 3 UCLA 11-2 and No. 17 UC San Diego 12-10.
Santa Clara had trouble generating offensive chances against third-ranked UCLA in the morning game. The Broncos rebounded to give tournament host UC San Diego a tight game in the afternoon.
"The first game we started off slowly and didn't work as hard as we needed on offense," said Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur. "What I really liked about the second game is the way we responded offensively. We were within one goal with a minute to go (against UC San Diego). I want to see this team put it all together tomorrow."
The Broncos will play Sonoma State Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. Possible opponents in the afternoon are CSU Bakersfield or Marist.
