SANTA CLARA, Calif.- After taking a two-week break from games, the No. 18 Broncos hosted Concordia and No. 16 UC Davis at the Sullivan Aquatic Center. The Broncos broke out of their six game losing streak with a 17-10 win over Concordia, and nearly beat UC Davis, 8-7.
Elle Surber came out with her game face on to start the game against the Eagles, scoring two goals. Erin Sheridan followed suit and put in her first goal of the game, Broncos advantage 3-0. The Broncos continued on their run with a third goal by Surber and one by Bandimere to make the game 5-0. The Eagles were able to put a goal in to the end the first period, 5-1.
Claire Eadington started off the second quarter with a goal to give the Broncos a five-goal advantage, 6-1. The Eagles found some momentum, scoring two goals, but Bandimere fought back and scored her second goal of the game and Laura Burtness scored her first to make the game 8-3, Broncos with the lead. The Eagles put in one more goal to make it 8-4, Broncos lead going into half.
The Eagles scored two more goals to open up the third period. Kaitlin Murphy put in her first goal of the game to end the run and make it 9-6, Broncos lead. With goals by Lauren Radich, Cathy Cantoni and a fourth by Surber, the Broncos made their lead 12-7 going into the final period of play.
Radich and Sheridan continued the Broncos run into the fourth, making the game 14-7. The Eagles put in two more goals, but goals by Eadington, Nicolette Balch and Susan Providenza gave the Broncos the 17-10 win over the Eagles.
To start the second game, the Aggies put the first goal on the board. June Afshar came up with a huge defensive block on a one on nobody shot to keep the game at 1-0, Aggie advantage. In a man-up opportunity, the Aggies scored their second goal of the game. Surber was able to convert aman up opportunity for the first Broncos goal of the game, 2-1. In the final second, the Aggies scored another goal to make the game 3-1.
The Aggies started off the second quarter with an earned ejection that they converted for a goal to make their lead 4-1. Kaitlin Murphy earned an ejection in set and Eadington found the back of the net to bring the Broncos within two. The Aggies went on a three-goal run to make their advantage 7-2. Surber converted another Broncos man-up opportunity and make the game 7-3 going into half.
Murphy came out with a bang and scored a goal on a layout front set, to bring the Broncos back within three. Surber followed suit and brought the Broncos within two of the Aggies. With an earned ejection by Elizabeth Anderson, Sheridan found the back of the net on the man-up opportunity making the game 8-6, Aggie advantage. Afshar came up with big saves in the cage to keep the Aggies at bay and end the quarter 8-6.
After battling back and fourth the whole final period, Murphy scored a final goal for the Broncos in the final three seconds, Aggies left the pool with the pool with the win, 8-7.
The Broncos will now travel to the east coast next weekend and face some tough east coast competition at Harvard, including No. 7 Princeton, Wager and Brown.
