After helping the No. 17 Broncos to a 3-1 record last weekend at the Harvard Invite, women's water polo captain Kaitlin Murphy was been named Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week on Thursday.
"Murph had a great weekend of games on Harvard trip, and I am very happy to see her recognized as player of the week by our conference," said Bronco head coach Keith Wilbur. "We traveled across the country and played some very good East Coast teams in a tough and unfamiliar environment. We posted a 3-1 record, and every win was a hard-fought victory that came down to the last minute of play. I thought our whole team showed great character and grit throughout this tournament, and Murph exemplified this with her play throughout the weekend."
Murphy recorded 10 of the Bronco's 40 goals this weekend, including a goal to tie the game against No. 20 Wagner to take the game into overtime. Murphy also added 11 earned ejections and 12 steals to her list of stats for the weekend.
The Broncos are 7-9. Gearing up to play their first conferences games of the season later this month, they first will play Redlands and old conference rival Cal. State Monterey Bay on March 23.
