SANTA CLARA, Calif. — After a week off of competition during spring break, Santa Clara track and field returns to action Friday at two events. Mary Kriege will run the 10000 meter race at the Stanford Invitational and the rest of the Broncos account for 35 entries at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.

Kriege is running the 10000m for the first time this season, and aims at qualifying for the NCAA Preliminary Meet, which takes the top 48 marks in each event. Friday marks her fourth collegiate 10000m run; the redshirt senior set a program record 35:12.72 at the 2015 Mt. SAC Relays.

"Her 5k mark at the Husky Classic and all her work at practice has indicated she has that level of fitness," associate head coach Pete Cushman said. "The field is perfect, the weather will be perfect, and now we look forward to her executing the plan. We'll feel comfortable with qualifying if she's under 34:30."
