The Bronco men's cross country team finished 21^st and the women 22^nd at the NCAA West Regional Championship.  After running to All-American honors last year, senior Stephanie Wilson finished 73rd and did not qualify for the NCAA Championship. 

Washington won the women's title and Oregon bested Stanford's men by two points to win the men's title. Portland's Trevor Dunbar won the men's title. Portland's men came in ranked No. 13 nationally and finished fourth, qualifying for the NCAA Championship. The WCC champion USF women finished seventh. The Bronco men were third at the WCC Championship and the women were fourth two weeks ago.

Wilson, who has battled injury all season after winning the WCC title in 2009 and finishing 28^th at the NCAA Championship, was racing for just the third time on Saturday. Wilson finished with a time of 21:33.00. 

"Stephanie gave herself a chance to return to the NCAA Championships by going out with the leaders. Unfortunately, she fell short in her attempt," said Bronco head coach Tom Service.  "Having missed the summer training due to injury there was simply not enough time for her to regain that type of fitness. She will undoubtedly word hard over the winter and work even harder to stay healthy so she can try and become the first runner at SCU to make the NCAA Championships in track."

The men's team, who scored 586 points to finish 21^st, was led by sophomore Kevin Oliver who finished 88^th at 31:38.01.  Freshman Luca Signore was 112^th at 32:02.45 and junior Austin Jones was 113^th in 32:03.10.  Freshman Ben Demaree was 132^nd at 32:25.80 and junior Matt Savage rounded out the Broncos by finishing in 141^st place at 32:46.87. Sophomore Marcos Hinojosa finished in 150th place at 33:10.99 and sophomore Moises Venegas was 153^rd at 33:38.75.

"We are disappointed with our finish. We knew coming in to the race that with the quality of field we were facing we needed to run a near perfect race to place where we wanted to. We did not have the depth needed to handle some minor injuries and illnesses that we had to deal with," said Bronco associate head coach Felipe Montoro.  "We did have some solid individual performances however. Sophomore Kevin Oliver ran well to lead the team and freshman Luca Signore ran his best race this season to be our second scorer. Overall, it was an important experience for our young team and gives them an idea of where they need to be in the future for our program to continue to grow. We are already looking forward to getting back to work after a short break."

Wilson finished 73^rd and was followed by teammate sophomore Erin McCarthy who finished 91^st at 21:51.65.  Freshman Erin Hicks finished 143^rd at 22:27.69 and junior Nicole Giove was 147^th at 22:30.47.  Sophomore Carey Parker rounded out the Broncos scoring at 22:31.80 in 149^th place. Freshman Allie Sibole finished 171^st at 22:59.95 and sophomore Hayley Ney was 182^nd at 23:10.61.

"Erin McCarthy had a great race as well running under 22:00 for 6k for the first time in her career," said Service.
