Broncos Add Experienced Transfer

Sept. 23, 2005

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University men's basketball coach Dick Davey announced that Danny Pariseau, a 5-11 senior guard from Eastern Washington University has transferred to the university and will be eligible to play for the Broncos beginning in the 2006-07 season.

He attended the first day classes for the fall quarter on Monday and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Pariseau, a native of Spokane, Wash., lettered three seasons at Eastern Washington. He registered a total of 284 assists in his 89-game career and finished just 12 from earning a spot on Eastern's top 10 career list. Pariseau started 36 of those 89 games and averaged 5.9 points and 2.1 rebounds while making 39 percent of his field goals, 35 percent of his three-point attempts and 79.1 percent of his free throws. He ranks seventh in EWU history in career free throw percentage.

"Danny is a hard-nosed type of player who should fit in well with our program," said Davey, who is entering his 14th season as the head coach of the Broncos. "He has a great attitude, plays with a high degree of intensity and desire and is fundamentally sound. Along with Brody Angley, he will give us improved depth at the point guard position next year. He will also provide his experience in practice as he sits out this year and will push some of our younger guys."

A three-time Big Sky Conference Academic All-League selection, Pariseau is a 2002 graduate of Shadle Park High School in Spokane, Wash. He finished his prep career with 1,355 points and led Shadle Park to a 48-11 record his last two seasons. As a senior, he averaged 18.6 points and made 90 percent of his free throws and earned first team all-state honors.

"I was really just looking for a change of scenery and Santa Clara felt like the right situation for me at this point in my life," said Pariseau. "I have two brothers who go to college in California and they love it. I was looking for a program that has a strong emphasis on fundamentals because I know I can continue to improve as a basketball player. After consulting with a number of people whom I trust, it was obvious that Santa Clara and Coach Davey were going to be the perfect fit for me athletically and academically."
