SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara basketball fans will be able to see if the Broncos can pull off the upset against the North Carolina Tar Heels for the second year in a row Saturday night as it was announced today that Fox Sports Net Bay Area will carry the SCU-UNC men's basketball game live at 5 p.m. Saturday evening.
Last Nov. 19, Santa Clara and North Carolina met as part of the Pete Newell Challenge in Oakland, Calif. Having been declared the No. 1 team in the land by Sports Illustrated just days before, the Tar Heels boasted an impressive line-up that would eventually lead UNC to the 2005 National Championship.
But the Broncos refused to be intimidated, and, overcoming an early 22-9 deficit to make a 20-4 run and go into the locker room at halftime with a 29-26 lead. In the second half the Broncos pulled away from the Tar Heels, continuing to hit clutch shot after clutch shot to keep UNC from gaining ground.
Travis Niesen finished the night with 26 points, Kyle Bailey added 20 while Doron Perkins scored 11 and pulled down nine rebounds for the Broncos in the 77-66 victory.
Saturday night's contest is scheduled to tip-off at 5 p.m. Pacific time and will be available on FSN Bay Area.
