Men's Rowing Concludes Day One of IRA National Championship Regatta

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's rowing had a solid start to the IRA National Championship Regatta Friday on Lake Natoma.

The Varsity 8 finished with a time of 6:01.841 in its heat and followed that up with a time of 6:02.763in the repechage. The 2nd Varsity 8 finished its heat with a time of 6:12.230 and its 6:16.514 in the repechage. The 3rd Varsity 8 finished its heat with a time of 6:20.179 and the repechage at 6:31.170.

"I thought our three 8s had a good start to the weekend," Santa Clara head coach Jay Farwell said. "We are racing against elite crews from the top rowing universities in the country. To have this many student-athletes competing at this level is a real testament to the direction of our rowing program."

Tomorrow Santa Clara has the semifinal races that will determine whether the Broncos enter the C or D final on Sunday. The C final will determine the 13-18 finishers while the D final determines 19-24. To achieve their goal and make the C final, it will require the Broncos to finish in the top-three of the semifinal heat in the morning.

The Varsity 8 goes at 8:24 a.m., the 2nd Varsity goes at 9:24 a.m., and the 3rd Varsity 8 goes at 9:36 a.m.
