Men’s Golf In The Hunt After First Day Of Duck Invitational

CRESWELL, Ore. – A tightly-contested first day of play at the 25th annual Duck Invitational left the 16 competing teams separated by just 25 shots on the leaderboard. Santa Clara sits in a 13th place tie after compiling a 601 and is only 19 shots off the lead after the first 36 holes, completed today at the Emerald Valley Golf Club.

The Broncos were consistent in their overall scoring carding a first round 301 and shaving a shot off their second 18 to score a 300. Oregon State holds the top spot on the leaderboard with a two-round total of 582 (+6), two shots ahead of in-state rival and tournament host Oregon.

Freshman Evan McLeod was the top individual performer for the Broncos scoring a 6-over 150 to tie for 40th place. His 1-over 73 was the team's best second round score. Senior Scott Lowe was a shot behind with rounds of 75 and 76 for a 151 (+7) total and sophomore Gio Gandionco was two shots back of McLeod with rounds of 77 and 75 for a 152 (+8) total.

Pacific's Byron Meth enters Tuesday's final round with a one-shot lead over Minnesota's Jose Mendez after carding a 3-under 141. Oregon's Sulman Raza and Colorado's Jeremy Paul are two shots back heading into the final 18 holes.

Sophomore Drew Miller had the Broncos' best score of the day shooting an even-par 72 over the first 18 holes but stumbled to an 84 in the second round to end the day with a 156. Tyler Kertson carded rounds of 77 and 76 for a 153 (+9) total.

Tuesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Broncos will play with Pacific, Gonzaga and San José State playing on the 13th through 16th holes. Final round live scoring is available at Golfstat.com or by clicking the live stats link on the Broncos website.
