Men’s Golf To Compete In Fresno State Classic Starting Monday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's golf team will travel to Fresno to compete in the 14-team Fresno State Classic starting on Monday. The Broncos will look to continue their strong play in the two-day, 54-hole event that will be played at the par-71, 6,776-yard San Joaquin Country Club.

This event will be the third of the spring season for the Broncos following seventh place finishes at the 12-team The Farms Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 11 and the 23-team Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Feb. 23. The Broncos have secured two top-5 and six top-10 finishes in their seven 2013-14 events.

Once again the West Coast Conference will be well represented as BYU, San Francisco and Loyola Marymount, along with Santa Clara, are all among the scheduled competing teams. No. 32 BYU and No. 83 San Francisco are the top ranked teams in the tournament, according to the most recent Golfstat rankings, while Santa Clara is at No. 94 and LMU is No. 124.

Sophomore Gio Gandionco became the fifth Broncos' top individual finisher when he placed in a tie for eighth at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in his top event of his young career. Gandionco tied his career-best round with a first round 68 and also established personal-bests with his finish (T-8), 54-hole score (211) and to par score (-5).

Scott Lowe, Tyler Kertson, Evan McLeod, Bobby Monaco and Drew Miller join Gandionco to form the Broncos' team in the six-count-four event.
