Men’s Golf Finishes Tied For Sixth at Bandon Dunes Championship

BANDON, Ore. – Top 15 finishes by Berk Harvey and Jack Avrit highlighted the performance of the Santa Clara men's golf team at the Bandon Dunes Championship.

Harvey finished tied for seventh with a 3-under-par 210 (68-69-73) and Avrit was tied for 14th at 1-over 214 (67-76-71) to help the Broncos finish in a three-way tie for sixth with No. 23-ranked Stanford and Fresno State at 11-over.

Santa Clara had a score of 863 (284-289-290) in the three-day, 14-team event that concluded Tuesday.

San Francisco, ranked No. 32 in the nation according to Golfstat.com, won the event with 16-under total of 836. Utah and Oregon were tied for second at 5-over on the par-71, 6,752-yard Bandon Trails Golf Course.

Tommy Stephenson of Fresno State held on to his second-round lead and was victorious at 8-under 205 (70-65-70).

"We didn't have our best all week and were still in the mix," Santa Clara head coach Andrew Larkin. "The guys took a good step forward this week, minimizing the mistakes. I'm excited to see what these guys can do when they all play well on the same day."

Zack Kaneshiro tied for 42nd at 9-over 222 (77-72-73) and Matt McCarty was tied for 55th at 11-over 224 (78-72-74).

Alex Conley didn't appear in the final individual standings due to his second-round tally being voided for signing an incorrect scorecard, but his final round 73 factored into the team scoring. He shot a 72 in Sunday's first round.

The Broncos went a tournament-best 12-under on the par 5 holes led by 6-under from Harvey who tied for ninth at last week's Sacramento State Invitational.

"I was proud of Berk's performance all week," Larkin said. "He was coming off a good tournament and backed up that performance. Berk's game is progressing nicely and even better play is still ahead of him."

Oscar Zimmerman was the lone Bronco playing as individual. He improved each day, carding a 10-over 223 (76-75-72).
