McCarty Set for NCAA Men's Golf Championship Regional

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Matt McCarty of Santa Clara men's golf is set to tee it up in the NCAA Championship.

Play in six, 54-hole regionals begins on Monday with McCarty participating as an individual at the one in Cle Elum, Washington.

The Cle Elum Regional, which will be played over three days at Tumble Creek Golf & Country Club, is one of three featuring 14 teams and five individuals with University of Washington serving as the host institution. The other three have 13 teams and 10 individuals.

The top five teams and the individual with the lowest total not on those squads in each regional advances to the NCAA final which will be held May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

McCarty, ranked No. 65 nationally by Golfstat.com, is seeded No. 2 among individuals in Washington. This is his second appearance in the NCAAs. He was a member of the squad which played in the 2018 NCAA Regional at NC State.

Hayden Shieh is the last Bronco to appear as an individual in the NCAAs. He made three straight trips (2015-17) before leading to the team to an appearance as a senior three years ago.

Tee times begin at 8 a.m. each day. McCarty is scheduled to tee off at 10:23 a.m. from the No. 1 hole in the opening round.
