Sept. 11, 2001

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University men's soccer will begin a season-long four-game homestand on Wednesday night when cross-town rival San Jose State will enter Buck Shaw Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. match.

The Broncos enter Wednesday night's contest with a 2-2-0 record and the No. 23 ranking by College Soccer News. The Spartans come into "The Shaw" with a perfect 4-0-0 record and a No. 20 ranking by College Soccer News and a No. 17 ranking in the NSCAA/adidas media poll.

Wednesday night will mark the 36th all-time meeting between the two schools, with the Spartans holding an 18-16-1 advantage over the Broncos including last year's 2-0 victory at Spartan Stadium. In the last 15 meetings however, the Broncos have defeated the Spartans in 12 of those contests.

Following the contest the Broncos will be on hand for a post-game autograph session that will include free posters.

As a pre-cursor to the main attraction, the soccer alumni for both schools will play a friendly exhibition match at Buck Shaw Stadium. Kick-off for the alumni exhibition is slated for 5 p.m. and will conclude at 6:15.
