KANSAS CITY - Santa Clara University men's soccer standout Jamil Walker was selected as the Major League Soccer's 39th overall pick in today's MLS SuperDraft, presented by adidas in Kansas City. Walker was selected in the fourth round by the San Jose Earthquakes.

"I am really excited that I have been given the opportunity to show my skills at the next level," Walker said. "It's great to have a chance to keep playing and to stay in the Bay Area."

Walker followed the draft online and shared the news first over the telephone with his father, Hugh.

"He said congratulations and then reminded me to start training and getting ready for camp."

Held in conjunction with the 56th annual Convention of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, today's six-round draft featured 60 total selections.

Walker, a forward for the Bronco squad, earned NSCAA/adidas All-Far West, All-West Region and first team All-WCC honors. He finished his senior season with 14 goals and four assists. The six goals he scored in league play led the WCC, while his 14 total goals gave him the third highest single-season goal total in SCU history.

The Earthquakes made Walker, a Pittsford, N.Y. native, their fifth pick in the draft.
