SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's soccer team racked up two more postseason honors Monday afternoon when Ryan Cochrane and Jamil Walker were named to the NSCAA/adidas All-Far West Squads.
Cochrane, a sophomore from Portland, Ore., was named to the first team after anchoring a stingy Bronco defense that allowed only 20 goals all season long. In addition to his first team All-WCC honors this year, Cochrane also plays for the U.S. Under-20 National team that qualified for the CONCACAF U-20 World Championships that will take place in March, 2003, in the United Arab Emirates. He earned third team honors last year as a freshman.
Walker, the senior from Pittsford, N.Y., earned second team All-West Region honors after leading the Broncos' offensive attack with his 32 points that came on 14 goals and four assists. His six goals scored in league play led the WCC and earned him first team All-WCC honors, while his 14 total goals gave him the third highest single-season goal total in SCU history.
The two helped the Broncos to their sixth-straight 10-win season and the program's 16th in the last 17 years. Their 10-6-1 overall record landed them just on the outside looking in of the NCAA Tournament, but their 3-3-0 record in league play was good enough for third place.
