Men's Soccer Hosts Two WCC Matches

This Week: Final Non-Conference Match at Sacramento State
Santa Clara will conclude both its regular season and the WCC season next week at home as they host the University of San Francisco Tuesday night and Loyola Marymount Saturday evening. Both matches are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. starts, with Saturday night's contest having a special pregame ceremony for the outgoing seniors Burke Ewers, Scott McLain and Jamil Walker.

Santa Clara vs. San Francisco
The Broncos and Dons have met 44 previous times entering Tuesday night's match with USF holding a 27-11-6 all-time series advantage. Despite the big overall advantage in the all-time series, Santa Clara has won seven-straight matches over San Francisco dating back to 1995. The Broncos came away with a thrilling 2-1 double overtime victory at USF last season. The lone goal that the Dons scored in last year's loss is the only goal they have scored on Santa Clara since 1993. The Broncos have outscored USF by a 10-1 margin during that time span.

Scouting the Dons
San Francisco enters Tuesday night's match with a 10-7-0 overall record and a 3-2-0 mark in league play. The Dons are led offensively by Josh Hansen's 10 goals and five assists. He was named the WCC Player of the Month for October after he scored six times and assisted on two others. Mark Muleady has taken the majority of the minutes between the pipes for USF, posting a 1.09 goals-against average in just over 1,322 minutes of play.

Santa Clara vs. Loyola Marymount
The Broncos and Lions have met 19 previous times entering Saturday night's regular season finale, with Santa Clara holding a commanding 16-2-1 all-time series advantage. The Broncos came away with a 1-0 victory at LMU last season to claim their seventh West Coast Conference title. SCU is 3-0-1 against the Lions over the last four seasons, with the tie coming during he 1999 season in Los Angeles. The only wins that Loyola Marymount has in the all-time series came during the 1982 and 1997 seasons, both of which were away from Buck Shaw Stadium.

Scouting the Lions
LMU enters the week with a 14-2-2 overall record and a 4-1 mark in WCC play. The Lions are led offensively by Kevin Novak who has scored eight goals and assisted on six others. Arturo Torres trails closely behind Novak for the team lead with his seven goals and four assists. Adam Sthay has taken the majority of the minutes in goal for the Lions, posting a remarkable 0.64 goals-against average in just over 1,265 minutes of play.

Last Week: Broncos Conclude Road Season with Win at Sac State
Santa Clara concluded both its non-conference and road schedule last Thursday afternoon with a 1-0 victory at Sacramento State. The match was very closely contested as both teams posted 13 shots, but it was Jeff Scott's shot in the 40th minute that was the difference in the match. The freshman intercepted a pass and blasted home his first collegiate goal into the left side of the net from 30 yards out. The win moved the Broncos all-time record against Sacramento State to 22-1-1.

Up Next: NCAA Tournament Selection Show
The Broncos will need a pair of wins this week to have any kind of shot at making the field of 48 for the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. The field of 48 will be announced live on the ESPNEWS network Monday afternoon, November 18th at 1:30 p.m. Last season the Broncos qualified for the tournament with an 11-8-0 overall record, but their 5-1-0 record in league play earned them the automatic qualifer for the tournament that goes to the conference champion. Havnig been officially eliminated from league championship contention, the Broncos must hope for an at-large bid to this year's tourney.

Walker Breaks Into Single-Season Top-10 List at SCU
With his three goals Saturday night senior Jamil Walker has tallied 12 goals thus far this season, moving him into a tie for 5th place on the Santa Clara single-season scoring list. He is currently tied with Richard Smith who scored 12 in 1983 and is one behind both Miguel Avila and Clive Barret. The all-time single season record at Santa Clara is 19 and was set by Scott Doubglas during the 1977 season. Walkers 19 career goals places him in a tie for 8th place all-time on the Mission Campus, tying him with Peter Cochrane, Alberto Cruz and Derick Brownell.
