Jamil Walker Named WCC Player of the Week

Nov. 19, 2002

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University men's soccer forward Jamil Walker was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for his efforts against San Francisco on November 12 and Loyola Marymount on November 16.

The senior from Pittsford, N.Y., led the Broncos to a pair of wins last week over San Francisco and Loyola Marymount in Buck Shaw Stadium. He scored a pair of the goals, including the game-winner, in the Broncos 4-1 defeat of USF. Four days later he assisted on a pair of goals, including the game-winner, helping the Broncos to a 3-0 win over No. 10 LMU.

The wins moved the Broncos' season record to 10-6-1 overall and 3-3-0 in WCC play, placing themsleves in good position to make the NCAA Tournament. Following Monday's tournament selection show however, Santa Clara was left on the outside looking in as they did not qualify for the 48-team tournament as they were edged out by Oregon State.

Walker's career on the Mission Campus ends after a breakout year in 2002. His 14 goals this season is the third highest single-season total in school history. Combine those goals with his seven from his previous two years and his 21 career goals ranks him seventh all-time in Bronco goal scoring history.

He also had four assists during his senior campaign which moves his point total to 32 for the season, which ties him for sixth place on the school's single-season top-10 list.

An All-WCC performer last year, Walker will find out if he made the cut again this year next week when the conference office announces the 2002 Men's Soccer All-WCC teams.
