SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's soccer will play a nine-match spring schedule this season, which features five days of competition in California, head coach Cameron Rast announced today.

"We all look forward to getting back on the field as a team to build toward the fall season," said Rast. "The spring games are a great time for us to focus on our quality of play against some great competition. All of the opponents we have scheduled will give us an opportunity to look at players who are eager to prove themselves and those looking to lock down positions within the team."

The schedule opens this weekend, with the Broncos traveling to southern California for the College Classic 2005, hosted by the Southwest Soccer Club. SCU will face Cal State Fullerton and New Mexico in a pair of contests on Saturday in Temecula.

The Broncos will return to the Bay Area for the remainder of their spring slate. Up first for SCU will be a pair of games in San Jose, Calif. on April 16. At 11 a.m., Santa Clara will face cross town rival San Jose State before taking on Cal State Stanislaus at 12:45 p.m.

The Broncos will return to the Mission Campus on April 23 as Sacramento State and UC Santa Cruz also head to Santa Clara. A full slate of games is scheduled with SCU hosting UC Santa Cruz in the day's first match. The Hornets and Banana Slugs will play in the second match at 11:30 a.m. before the Broncos play Sacramento State at 1 p.m.

The Broncos will scrimmage with the two-time MLS Cup Champion San Jose Earthquakes on May 10, at the Santa Clara Soccer Park, located just four miles from campus, near the Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club. Cross streets are Centennial Boulevard and Tasman Drive.

The final day of spring competition will be May 14 as SCU travels to Stanford for a 10 a.m. contest to begin the day. In the afternoon, the Broncos will host its annual alumni match at 2 p.m. on the Mission Campus.
