This Week: Santa Clara/ adidas Classic
The third-ranked Santa Clara University men's soccer team will open its home schedule this weekend with the annual Santa Clara/adidas Classic. After Davidson and San Francisco start the tournament on Thursday at 5 p.m., the Broncos will host San Jose State in the annual Rivalry Series match at 7:30 p.m. Thursday is also Santa Clara Community Day as all Santa Clara residents receive half price tickets to the session and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Bronco rally towel. The Broncos will look to avenge last season's 2-1 loss to the Spartans, which was SCU's first loss of the 2003 season. The Spartans are 1-3-0 entering the weekend and hold a 19-18-1 record in the series against the Broncos.

The Dons and Spartans will kick-off the second day of action on Saturday in a 5 p.m. match. Santa Clara will face Davidson in the final match of the tournament, marking the first time the schools have met. The Tigers are 3-1-0 entering the week after posting wins over Vanderbilt and 21st-ranked UAB last weekend.

Last Week: George Mason/Comfort Inn Classic
With a perfect 2-0 record in the GMU/Comfort Inn Classic last weekend, the Broncos picked up their second straight tournament title. Sophomore midfielder Medhi Ballouchy also earned MVP honors for the second week in a row after being named MVP at the diadora Classic in San Francisco on September 4.

Against the host George Mason, Santa Clara scored the game's only goal in the 18th minute and allowed the dominating defense to hold the Patriots at bay. Freshman Peter Lowry recorded the score, finding the back of the net for the third consecutive match.

On Sunday, SCU rallied from a 1-0 deficit with less than nine minutes to earn a 2-1 victory over Loyola College. Jason Pan tallied a goal in the 81st minute to even the score before Jeff Scott added the game-winner less than five minutes later.

Along with Ballouchy, defender Ryan Purtell, forward Will Weatherly and Pan were each named to the All-Tournament Team.

Broncos in the WCC
Only four matches into the season, the Broncos pace the West Coast Conference in a variety of statistical categories. With 10 goals on the season, SCU is the only conference team to post double-digit goals. Defensively, the Broncos have allowed only two goals in 360 minutes of action and shutout two opponents to rank second in the WCC in goals allowed.

Peter Lowry leads the conference with three goals scored and six points on the season. Medhi Ballouchy is also atop the WCC with six points of his own. Goalkeeper Kent Harkness is currently second in the conference, allowing only 0.51 goals per game. He is also one of only four WCC netminders to record a shutout in 2004.
