SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Former Bronco and Colorado Rapid goalkeeper Joe Cannon was named Major League Soccer's Most Valuable Player by MLSnet.com after leading the Rapids to the MLS Playoffs this season.

Cannon posted 10 wins in the net for the Rapids in 2004, along with 150 saves and a 1.07 goals against average. The Sun Valley, Idaho native recorded shutouts in a third of the contests he played this season, while Colorado posted a new MLS team record with a 1.07 goals against average of its own.

While at Santa Clara, Cannon was the Bronco's starting netminder from 1995-1997. He ranks sixth in the SCU record books in career shutouts (15) and goals against average (0.94). Cannon also posted two of the top Bronco seasons in the net with a 0.63 GAA in 1996 and a 0.70 GAA in 1995.

Since leaving SCU, Cannon has spent time with the United States National Team, earning a cap in 2003. He also played for the San Jose Earthquakes of the MLS for more than four years before being traded to Colorado in 2003. In 2001, Cannon was named to the MLS All-Star Team after leading the goalkeeper balloting with 19,142 votes.

The 2004 Broncos, who have a break from competition this week, will return to action on Friday, October 29 at San Francisco. The meeting with the Dons is set to start at 7:00 p.m. at Negoesco Stadium.
