Final Stats

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Sophomore midfielder Erik Ustruck scored the game-winning goal in the 26th minute as the Santa Clara University men's soccer team defeated San Diego, 1-0 in its final regular season game. The Broncos finish the regular season with a 15-5-0 mark and 8-4-0 record in West Coast Conference action.

"Over the course of 20 games, I think this team has really started to take stride," said head coach Cameron Rast. "We are playing some of our best soccer right now. Today, we had a great individual effort from Erik Ustruck and a solid team performance as well."

Ustruck posted the game's only score at the 26 minute mark. The Manchester, Miss. native dribbled around several Torero defenders on the right side before placing his shot past a diving Lance Friesz into the bottom left corner of the net. It was the first goal of Ustruck's sophomore season.

Defensively, SCU notched its 11th shutout of the season. Senior Kent Harkness and freshman Christopher Moreo each played 45 minutes to keep San Diego scoreless. Moreo recorded four saves in the second half to post a new career-high.

Prior to the beginning of the contest, three Bronco seniors were honored for their final regular season home match at Buck Shaw Stadium. Harkness and team co-captains Jason Pan and Will Weatherly took part in the pre-game ceremony along with their parents.

Santa Clara will find out when and where it will play next on Monday. The NCAA Men's Soccer Championship selection show will air on ESPN News at 1:30 p.m.
