Oct. 4, 2004

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Sophomore midfielder Medhi Ballouchy was named West Coast Conference Player of the Month for September, along with San Francisco's Aaron Chandler. The award is the first such honor for the Casablanca, Morocco native after receiving WCC Player of the Week honors on September 6th.

In the month of September, Ballouchy paced the Broncos with 10 points and was one of only two WCC players to post double-digit points. He also led the conference with four assists, while ranking third in goals scored with three.

"Medhi is very deserving of this honor from the WCC," said head coach Cameron Rast. "We believe him to be one of the best players in the country. This award is an early indication of the impact he has in our program and on our season."

Ballouchy broke onto the SCU scene in a big way, being named the diadora Classic MVP in his first weekend in a Bronco uniform. In the two-match tournament, Ballouchy scored two goals and recorded an assist as SCU claimed its first tournament crown of the season. For his efforts on the week, Ballouchy was named to College Soccer News and Soccer America's National Teams of the Week. He also was named Co-WCC Player of the Week.

The Broncos would move on to the GMU/Comfort Inn Classic on September 10th and earn their second straight tournament title. Ballouchy assisted on a goal in the 2-1 victory over Loyola College to pick up Offensive MVP honors at the classic.

Ballouchy would take SCU onto a third consecutive tournament crown at the adidas Classic on September 16-18. With wins over San Jose State and Davidson, SCU improved to 6-0-0 on the season. Ballouchy posted two assists in the two matches and was named to the All-adidas Classic Team.

In SCU's 2-0 victory over then fifth-ranked Stanford, Ballouchy scored his first game-winner of the season, marking the sixth time in seven matches he recorded a point.

Currently, Ballouchy is atop the Bronco points standings with 11. He assisted on Keith DeVey's game-winning goal at Saint Mary's on Friday afternoon to bring his assist total to five this season. He also ranks tied for second in the conference in points and tied for first in assists.
