Weatherly and DeVey Earn Academic Honors

Nov. 8, 2004

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University men's soccer forwards Will Weatherly and Keith DeVey were each named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Men's Soccer Team on Monday. It is the second such honor for Weatherly, while it is the first of DeVey's career.

"I am very happy that both Keith and Will were recognized for their work both on and off the field," said head coach Cameron Rast. "They are each great representatives of our team and Santa Clara University. They both exemplify what it means to be a student-athlete and to educate the whole person, which is what we do at SCU."

With his selection to the All-District VIII team this season, Weatherly is one of only two members of the team to be honored multiple times in his career. Last season, the Bellevue , Wash. native earned the same recognition from CoSIDA.

Weatherly is an accounting major at Santa Clara, currently boasting a 3.653 cumulative grade point average. This past summer, Weatherly interned at Price Waterhouse in preparation for his career after graduation from the Mission Campus.

On the field, the team captain has been an integral part of the Broncos' success in 2004. The senior forward has two goals this season and assisted on three others, as his seven points are tied for third on the team. He has also started in each of SCU's 18 contests this season.

DeVey picks up his first honor from CoSIDA in the first year he was eligible to be named to the team. The sophomore communication major excels in the classroom as well as on the field as he has a 3.739 cumulative grade point average.

On the field, DeVey ranks third on the team with seven points in 2004. The Kula, Hawaii native has scored three goals, including the game-winner at Saint Mary's, and assisted on another. He has seen action in 17 of the Broncos' 18 matches of the season.

Santa Clara is one of only two schools to place multiple student-athletes on the All-District VIII Team. The Broncos are also one of only two West Coast Conference teams who have players on the team, as Saint Mary's' Michael Johnson joins Weatherly and DeVey.

The men's soccer team was voted on by CoSIDA members from within the District VIII states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, and the province of British Columbia. The all-district selections advance to the national ballot, which will be released November 22.
