SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The 15th-ranked men's soccer team continued its winning ways with a 2-0 victory over West Coast Conference foe Gonzaga in front of 585 fans at Buck Shaw Stadium on Friday night. With the win, SCU improves to 13-4-0 on the year with a 6-3-0 mark in conference action.

"At this stage in the season, it is good to see we are making progress toward the playoffs," said head coach Cameron Rast. "We scored two good goals early and played consistently. We just need to play that way for an entire 90 minutes."

The Broncos did post both goals early in the match, getting on the scoreboard in the second minute of play. Forward Ryan Wolfe headed in a pass from Kelechi Igwe right in front of the net to give SCU the early advantage. The goal was the first on the season for the Laguna Beach native.

Igwe was not done making an impact in the match as he would add his own score in the 12th minute. After dribbling into the penalty box, Igwe was fouled by a Bulldog defender and was awarded a penalty kick. He would put the Broncos up by two goals as he drilled the penalty kick into the lower left corner. Igwe's goal was his second of the year.

Santa Clara continued to create opportunities through out the contest, outshooting Gonzaga 9-3. The Broncos added five shots in the second period after posting four in the first half. Erik Ustruck had the Bronco's best scoring opportunity in the second frame as a header from less than five yards out bounced off the right post.

The Bronco defense also played strong, holding the Bulldogs to three shots, one of which was on goal. Senior goalkeeper Kent Harkness and freshman netminder Christopher Moreo combined for the Bronco's ninth shutout of the season.

The Broncos will continue their five-match homestand this weekend when they host Portland on Sunday afternoon. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m.
