The Santa Clara University men's water polo program had five players earn Academic All-America honors by the American Water Polo Coaches Association for the 2003 season.

The student-athletes represent achievement on three levels: Outstanding (3.71-4.0), Superior (3.41-3.7) and Excellent (3.2-3.4). Team Honors represent those institutions whose combined team GPA is over 2.75.

Junior goalkeeper Peter Moore boasts a 3.60 in Finance and received Outstanding recognition. Junior Mark Perlite (3.38, Accounting), sophomore Austin Brizgys (3.26, undeclared), senior Daniel Figoni (3.24, Finance) and senior Logan Gee (3.21, Combined Sciences) received Excellent honors.

Moore started every match in goal for the Broncos in 2003, registering 785 saves, and notched 11 contest in which he had a least 10 saves. Perlite and Brizgys played in all 30 games as well.

Team captains Figoni and Gee graduated from the program after the fall season. Figoni, an All-Western Water Polo Association second team honoree, finished his career ranked high in Bronco recordbooks: fourth in goals (121) and assists (42), and 10th in steals (67), while Gee is eighth in steals (69), 12th in assists (20) and 15th in goals (60).

Leading the AWPCA list with perfect academic records is Alessandro Lazzarini of Harvard, Srdjan Pavlovic of Salem International and Moran Stern and Andrija Vrdoljak, both of St. Francis College.

As a team, the Broncos averaged a 2.99 GPA, good for AWPCA Team Honors. Chaminade (3.48), Harvard (3.47), Salem International (3.44), Connecticut College (3.30) and BYU-Hawaii (3.29) were the top five schools in that list of 22 programs.

Moore, Perlite and Brizgys are among 18 returning players from a team that posted a 17-13 record in 2003, tying the 1998 squad for most victories in a single season, and was ranked nationally for the second half of the season.
