CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's water polo team defeated Chaminade 12-6 to open play at the 11th annual Convergence Tournament, hosted by Claremont at Pomona-Pitzer's Haldeman Pool. Junior Kenny Flanagan-De La Hoz led the Broncos with five goals as the team earned its 10th win of the season (10-8 overall).

Head coach Keith Wilbur said the squad got off to a slow start, but finished strong. He also highlighted the six kick outs Flanagan-De La Hoz drew to earn multiple man-up opportunities.

Daniel Figoni and Kevin Starry contributed two goals apiece to the Bronco scoreboard, while Mark Oda, Logan Gee and Sho Yamazaki posted one tally each. Peter Moore had a strong performance in goal, registering eight blocks, one steal and two assists.

Santa Clara will continue action at the Convergence Tournament this afternoon, playing Whittier at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Broncos will face BYU-Hawaii (8:30 a.m.) and Pomona-Pitzer (1 p.m.) to close out tournament participation. On Sunday, the Broncos return to the Bay Area and will host an alumni game at the Leavey Pool at 1 p.m.
