SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's water polo team defeated Division III sixth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer 11-6 this afternoon to close action at the Slugfest Invitational, hosted by UC Santa Cruz at its East Field House this weekend.

With a loss earlier today to 15th-ranked U.S. Air Force Academy, Broncos' record moves to 8-5 on the season.

Kenny Flanagan-De La Hoz led the Broncos with four goals, while two each were scored by Daniel Figoni and Logan Gee. Grant Allison, Kevin Starry and Whit Gilfillan added one tally apiece. Gilfillan and Flanagan-De La Hoz also combined for six steals and to draw five kick outs.

Peter Moore played the first three quarters in the cage and recorded six blocks. Floyd Tucker finished the match and registered three saves and one steal.

"We came out strong and took an early lead and was able to play everybody," SCU head coach Keith Wilbur said. "It was a long weekend with a lot of wear and tear, but our guys finished strong."

Santa Clara returns to the pool next weekend at the NorCal Tournament, hosted by Stanford University in Palo Alto. Game opponents and times have yet to be released.
