PRINCETON, N.J. - The No. 13 Santa Clara men's water polo team rebounded from last night's tough loss against Princeton, winning twice on the second day of the Princeton Invitational.  The Broncos defeated George Washington, 14-4, and Fordham, 13-9, in overtime.

Senior Stephen Hobbs had an excellent day, scoring three goals against the Colonials and four on the Rams. 

Also scoring against George Washington was sophomore Patrick Weiss with three goals, junior James Case with two, and with one goal each was junior Brett Zylstra, junior Daley Meistrell, junior Marcus Akerland, senior Josh Luebke, freshman Theo Nasser, and freshman Tucker Carlson.  Junior goalie Michael Wishart had seven blocks in three quarters, along with a steal and an assist.  Sophomore goalie John Nash picked up one save in the fourth quarter.

In the second match against Fordham, the Broncos were taken to overtime by the Rams, but exploded for four goals in extra time for the win.  Along with his four goals, Hobbs also registered drew four kickouts.  Case had a stellar game as well, scoring four goals of his own.  Also scoring was Akerland with two, senior Mitch Klipa with two, and Zylstra with one.

A five-assist, two-kickouts drawn performance by Meistrell helped pace Santa Clara, while Aklerand added two assists, three steals, and two KOD.  Head coach Keith Wilbur credited Klipa's great defensive play as another huge contribution to help the Broncos' win.

"It's a different environment, playing on the East Coast," said Wilbur.  "I'm really proud of the effort our guys gave today and I thought they really came together as a team today.  It was good to face a little adversary early in the season and to pull out that overtime win.  Hopefully that will help us further into the season.

The Broncos will close out tournament play tomorrow with three games, the first against Harvard, the second against Johns Hopkins, and a finale against the New York Athletic Club.
