Bronco Polo Descends On Davis For Aggie Shootout

The No. 15 Santa Clara men's water polo team will head to UC Davis for the Aggie Shootout on Saturday, playing both No. 11 UC Davis (9 a.m.)  and Redlands (3 p.m.) in the one-day event.

The Broncos will be looking to avenge their 7-4 loss to the Aggies from last weekend's NorCal Tournament and will face a solid side in the NCAA DIII second-ranked Bulldogs.

Santa Clara is currently 5-5 on the season and is led by junior James Case's 16 goals. Seniors Stephen Hobbs (14) and Mitch Klipa (12) have also posted double-digit goal totals.  Juniors Daley Meistrell and Marcus Akerland have also provided solid all-around efforts for the Broncos.  Meistrell leads the team in assists (22) and Akerland has 14 assists, 13 steals, and seven goals.  In the cage, junior goalie Michael Wishart has saved 55% of the shots he has faced, while adding five steals and seven assists.

The 9-3 Aggies split their results last weekend at NorCal, exiting with a big, 10-6 win over UC San Diego in addition to their win over Santa Clara.  Aaron Salit is the most dangerous man with the ball on UC Davis, having scored 28 goals, which accounts for 25 percent of the teams' total goals.  Time in the cage has been split between Kevin Peat and Erik Quinn, with Peat the clear starter.  Both goalies are averaging over 10 saves per game.

Redlands is 6-4 and has faced several top teams this season, including USC and Stanford, and has yet to defeat a DI team.

The Bronco men will continue to be on the road for games until Oct. 16th, when they welcome UC San Diego to the Sullivan Aquatic Center for the first home game of the season.
