No. 11 Santa Clara Takes On No. 4 Stanford At Home Friday Night

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 11 Santa Clara men' s water polo team (17-9 overall, 7-5 WWPA) will host its only game of the week this Friday night, taking on No. 4 Stanford (9-5 overall, 3-1 MPSF) at 6 p.m. at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.

This will be the only meeting between the two teams this season. Last season the
Cardinal defeated the Broncos 10-4 at the Avery Aquatic Center in Stanford, California.
Santa Clara has never beaten its Bay Area-rival Stanford.

The Broncos are coming off a strong performance at The Rodeo where they posted an
impressive 4-0 record. Santa Clara picked up wins over No. 15 Air Force, No. 20(t)
Brown, No. 20(t) Bucknell, and WWPA foe Air Force.

The Broncos are led by junior James Case's 50 goals, which includes Case' s five goal outburst against Air Force this past weekend. Seniors Stephen Hobbs and Nick Poggetti also have eclipsed the 30-goal mark. Daley Meistrell continues to rack up assists and currently is two assists shy of tying former Santa Clara All-American Jack Wall' s single-season assist record. Bronco goalie Michael Wishart is coming off an outstanding weekend, where he racked up 49 total saves.

The Cardinal enters this contest in contention for a regular-season MPSF championship
following a nine-goal victory over No. 10 Pepperdine, 16-5. Stanford is led by standout
junior Jacob Smith' s 31 goals. He is followed closely by Peter Sefton' s 22, Sage Wright' s
21, and Paul Rudolph' s 20. The Cardinal's balanced scoring attack has six Stanford players over the 10-goal mark on the season. Brian Pingree, the starting goalkeeper for Stanford, has registered 103 saves on the season. The Cardinal have played two WWPA conference members this season, posting a 13-5 win over UC Davis and a 22-12 trouncing of UCSD at
the SoCal invitational.
