The Santa Clara University women's basketball team recently completed its season, advancing to the postseason for the fourth straight year. The Broncos posted a 20-8 record under first-year head coach Chris Denker, its fourth straight season with at least 20 wins and 11th straight record over the .500 mark. A few season highlights:

  • Seniors Kristin Franklin, Annie Garrison, Jennifer Glysson and Kim Sorenson became the first class in Bronco history to advance to four straight postseasons, reaching the NCAA Tournament in 1998 and '99 and the WNIT in 2000 and '01.

  • Santa Clara earned its seventh regular season West Coast Conference title and third in the last four years. The Broncos tied with Saint Mary's for the regular season league bragging rights, as both teams finish with 11-3 league marks. Santa Clara has now recorded a winning record in league play for the 11th consecutive year, the longest streak in the 16-year history of WCC basketball. No other school has had more than five straight seasons over .500.

  • Santa Clara was ranked top-20 nationally in scoring defense, limiting opponents to under 60 points per game through the season. Additionally, the Broncos led the league in field goal percentage for the fifth straight season and led the WCC in assists for the fourth straight season.

  • Senior Annie Garrison was honored through the season for her achievements on and off the court. She was named a first team CoSIDA/Verizon All-Academic honoree for District VIII while also garnering WBCA/Kodak All-America District VIII honors. Additionally, Garrison became the first player in Santa Clara history to be named a unanimous three-time first team All-WCC member. She also became only the third player in WCC history to post more than 1,000 points, 700 rebounds and 200 blocks for a career and finishes at the top of the Bronco shot blocking list, second in rebounding and is seventh all-time in scoring.

  • Annie Garrison and junior Becki Ashbaugh earned the honors for the second straight year while senior Kim Sorenson and junior Caroline Gruening were first-time selections.

  • Junior Becki Ashbaugh hit a three-pointer with 39 seconds left as Santa Clara upset No. 10 Texas Tech 61-56 on Dec. 30 for its first win over a Top-10 team in six years. The last time Santa Clara beat a top-10 team was Dec. 19, 1994, against No. 10 Washington. Ashbaugh finished with 17 points and six rebounds.

  • The Broncos entered a new century of coverage with live audio broadcasts via the Internet. Beginning with the new calendar year and through the conference tournament, Santa Clara broadcast all regular season home games on its official website. Additionally, the Broncos also launched a new feature that allowed fans to follow each home game with a live statistical tracker. Fans could receive real-time updated statistics direct from the official courtside scoring computer for the team's home contests, allowing users to listen to the audio broadcast and keep up with the statistics simultaneously.

  • Santa Clara women's basketball unveiled its newly renovated Leavey Center on Dec. 27. Although the Broncos lost their home opener to Maryland, the team finished its home season with an 8-2 record.
