Women's Golf Signs Two to Letters of Intent

Jan. 3, 2001

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's golf head coach Polly Schulze announced the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent during last November's signing period. The Class of 2005 will include Anne Bowden of Santa Cruz and Courtney Dimpel of Aptos.

Schulze said she has one more scholarship available and will look to sign another player during the spring signing period, which begins April 15.

Bowden and Dimpel have competed head-to-head in the Santa Cruz County Athletic League for the last four years and have both been voted League MVP and Player of the Year, as well as captained their respective varsity teams.

"Both Courtney and Anne bring a tenacity to always finish strong," Schulze said. "With their similar playing styles and familiarity with one another, I feel they will come to Santa Clara with an enthusiasm to lead this team in a very positive way."

Dimpel is a 5-4 right-hander from Aptos High School. She placed third in the Central Coast Section Regional this year, posting three birdies on the back nine to finish with a 78. Additionally, she recently qualified for a National Junior Tournament and is averaging 78 strokes per round.

Bowden qualified right behind her new teammate with a 79 to finish fourth at the CCS Tournament. She is a 5-5 right-hander from Harbor High School and has led the Pirates to three-straight undefeated seasons. Bowden won two junior events this past season, and placed third in the Junior Tour All-American point standings.
