Women's Golf Competes at Lady Aztec Invitational

LAKESIDE, Calif. - Three members of Santa Clara's women's golf team are competing as individuals at the Lady Aztec Invitational, hosted by San Diego State at the Barona Creek Country Club. The two-day tournament covers 36 holes on a par-72 layout measuring 6,140 yards.

Weather conditions were cold and windy this morning, but sophomore Jessica Abbott was able to lead the Broncos with a first-round 84, 12 strokes over par and good for 48th place. Sophomore Katie Gross shot a 24-over 96 in today's first round and is currently tied for 86th place while newcomer Melanie LaVaute shot a 149.

The Broncos will conclude play at the invitational with tomorrow morning's final round, a shotgun start beginning at 7:30 a.m.
