Broncos Ready for Final Match Against USF

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Bronco women's tennis team will tackle the USF Dons in their final match of the season this Friday, April 10th, at Degheri Center. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. In addition to being the last match before the upcoming WCC tournament in San Diego, the Broncos will also celebrate Senior Day for graduating seniors Stephanie Galainena and Myra Davoudi.

The Broncos are 8-9 for the season and 2-2 in the WCC after their recent loss to Saint Mary's on April 5th, 7-0. The Broncos fell to USF earlier this season in a 5-1 decision on February 13 and are looking to avenge that loss before the WCC tournament. "We feel like we're very even with USF," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell. "It's going to be a close match so we're definitely going to have to play our best."

Additionally the Broncos believe that strong doubles play will be a contributing factor against USF. "Doubles is one of our strengths" said Cabell. "Getting off to a good start in doubles always gives us a lot of momentum going into singles play and it makes a big difference."

Besides being the last home match of the season, the match-up against USF will also be the last court appearance for seniors Stephanie Galainena and Myra Davoudi. In singles play, Galainena is 7-10 for the season and Davoudi is 7-9. For Cabell, the experience will be bittersweet. "It's going to be cool to see Stephanie and Myra play their last match here at Santa Clara. They've been great competitors for four years and they are both going to want to go out on top with a W each."

Last Time Out
The Broncos were blanked by the Saint Mary's Gaels in a 7-0 decision on April 5th. Senior Stephanie Galainena and sophomore Ashley Pane earned the only win for the day at the No. 1 doubles spot against Saint Mary's Alex Poorta and Claire Soper, 8-5.

Scouting USF
The USF Dons are 9-8 for the season and 3-2 in the WCC after their recent win over Gonzaga, 5-2. Sophomore Jennifer-Lee Heinser was recently named WCC Player of the Month for the month of March. Heinser is 13-3 in singles play for the season and is ranked 60th in the nation. The Dons are coached by Hilary Somers, who is in her 7th year with USF.

Last Match Against USF
In their last meeting against USF on February 12th, the Broncos were defeated by the Dons, 5-1. Senior Myra Davoudi led the Bronco squad with the lone win of the day at the No. 4 singles position, defeating Julie Wartenburger, 6-2, 6-1. Doubles were not played due to inclement weather.
