June 19, 2009

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's tennis 2009-10 recruiting class has earned a No. 13 ranking nationally by tennisrecruiting.net, it was announced Friday. It is the program's first-ever recruitment class ranking. The Broncos are one of two team's from the West Coast Conference ranked on the top-25 mid-major list, as the Waves of Pepperdine received top honors.

"I'm really proud of both our current team and the incoming recruiting class," said head coach Ben Cabell. "Receiving this ranking proves that our program is growing and moving in the right direction. It is a great time for Santa Clara women's tennis. We could have not signed such a talented class without the hard work and strength of our current student-athletes. I'm excited for next season to begin."

Cabell, who will enter his fourth season as head coach of the Broncos in 2009-10, welcomes three standouts for next season. Leading the way is the current No. 1 tennis recruit from Arizona, Maggie McGeorge. The Tucson, Ariz., native attended Salpointe Catholic and led her team to the state semifinals at the No. 1 singles position. She will be joined by Saratoga, Calif., native Kelly Lamble. A graduate of Saratoga High School, Lamble is ranked in the top-20 in California and top-100 in the nation. Rounding out Cabell's 2009-10 class is London, England, native Alexandra Zaniewski, who will provide a level of international and professional experience to the Bronco tennis program.
