April 22, 2009

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- Senior Stephanie Galainena, junior Ashley Pane, and freshmen Kacie Wagner and Kimmi Cox were named to the 2009 West Coast Conference Women's Tennis Team, as announced by the WCC on Wednesday. Galainena and Wagner received honorable mention accolades for singles and doubles play, while Cox and Pane received honorable mentions for doubles.

The awards are a first for all four Broncos. This is the first time in Santa Clara history that the Broncos have had four players named All-WCC in the same year.

During the regular season in singles, Galainena was 8-10 at the No.1 position, while Wagner posted 9-7, mainly at the No. 2 position. In doubles, Galainena and Pane earned an 8-9 record at the No. 1 doubles spot. At the No. 3 doubles spot Wagner and Cox had an impressive 10-3 record, including a nine-game winning streak.

"I'm very proud that the WCC is recognizing our team this year," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell. "For Stephanie, this honor culminates a terrific season and a great four years as a Bronco. I'm also thrilled for Kacie; she's definitely one of our top freshmen this year. It's great to see the conference also honor our top-performing doubles players; they all worked very hard this year and I am extremely proud of them."

The Broncos finished the 2009 season with an 8-10 record in the regular season and 2-1 in the postseason, finishing in seventh place finish at the WCC Tournament last weekend.
